Tropical interiors to bring the sunshine inside

We’ve had one of the warmest summers on record, and while gardeners and farmers desperately need rain, we know lots of our followers will have enjoyed the sunshine and balmy evenings outdoors. Now that the evenings are drawing ever so slightly in, we thought it would be fun to focus this month’s blog on tropical interiors to bring the sunshine inside! A bright colour palette is a great way to boost your mood during the wetter and cooler weather that’s almost certainly on the way. Plus, when spring rolls around again, tropical colours and prints will have you daydreaming about another amazing summer in the sunshine. Let’s take a look at some of the ways you can bring a tropical vibe into your home with new interiors accessories and on-trend colours.

Vivid colours are back in style

It’s our business to know what the latest interior and home trends are, and we can report that this year has seen bold jewel colours come back in style. That aligns well with a tropical theme, giving you the chance to add a splash of emerald, sapphire, golden yellow, amethyst or topaz pink. If painting or repapering a whole room with a bright colour or wallpaper design feels like a step too far, why not go for a feature wall, or use paneling on the lower half of the wall?

A burst of tropical green houseplants

We love a home that’s filled with plants, like this shot featuring a Nanimarquina floral design! There are hundreds of types of houseplants to choose from including plenty that fit the ‘tropical’ theme, from more unusual choices like an areca palm or monkey mask monstera to classics like yuccas, rubber plants and peace lilies. We love grouping several different plants together in pots, with larger ones on the floor, medium ones on plant stands and the smallest on side tables and shelves. There’s even evidence that some plants, including the humble peace lily, can help clean toxins like formaldehyde, benzene and ammonia from the air in your home. But regardless of what type and size of plants you choose, they will all add some tropical colour to your home in the middle of winter. A browse around Houseplant.co.uk will help you figure out what plants you like and if your house is the right environment to grow them.

Rugs with vibrant tropical prints

Here at Heugah we sell a range of interior accessories, but adding a new rug is one of our favorite ways to transform a room. A rug can add oodles of interest and pattern or help balance out a room if you’ve chosen a busy wallpaper or bright paint colour. With that in mind, here are four rugs from the website that all tick the ‘tropical’ box in one way or another!

First up is the Reef Floral Rug from Asiatic, shown here in the pink multicolour design. This eye-catching rug is crafted from 100% pure wool so it’s soft and cosy as well as vibrant and fun!

If you’ve got an eye on sustainability, then the ‘Butterfly Blooms’ design from Hug Rug’s eco-washable range could be right up your street. It ticks the box of a tropical theme, can be washed in the machine and is crafted from recycled plastic bottles!

If you love tropical colours but don’t love a ‘floral’ pattern, here’s an idea! The ‘Patch’ rug from Ligne Pure is packed with gorgeous bright and tropical shades but in a patchwork design instead of depicting plants and flowers. Take a closer look at this design here.

If you are keen on the idea of a leaf print you can take it to the extreme with the Monstera Rug from Lorena Canals. It’s available in four shades, from this bright green to a more muted olive and even a dusky pink, so there’s likely to be a colour that works for your home.

Uplevelling indoor and outdoor living spaces

Indoor outdoor rugs are a great way to breathe new life into a conservatory or sunroom that might be neglected a bit in the autumn/winter but can be a great place to sit on a sunny morning. We have designs that will stand up to UV, damp and mildew and stay looking great. Plus, when warm spring and summer days roll back around these rugs can be used on decks and patios too! One of our current favourite indoor/outdoor rugs is the Linear Stem design from Orla Kiely in Olive, not least for the vibrant pink trim!
