Product Description
Lucia Eames Sunbirds Charcoal from our Nanimarquina Lucia Eames rug collection, stems from Lucia Eames’ fascination with observing nature up close, translating organic forms into a graphic composition with an almost calligraphic quality. The design unfolds from a central motif that expands outward, reinterpreting traditional rugs through a contemporary lens. Crafted from hand-braided jute and later stitched together, it introduces a technique that creates a richly textured surface. The interweaving of fibers produces subtle color variations, combining the honesty of Natural Materials with a refined visual language. Its flat structure and the durability of jute make it especially suited for spaces where authenticity, texture and longevity are key.
Hand stitched using 100% jute with a pile height of 7mm

A rug collection based on original works by American artist Lucia Eames which translates Lucia’s distinctive visual language into a woven format, marking a significant expansion of her artistic legacy through material, craftsmanship, and contemporary design.
Drawing on seven works created by Lucia, the collection reflects recurring motifs present in her joyful work, such as butterflies, birds, suns, tendrils, and abstract organic forms. Much of Lucia’s deeply Californian practice was rooted in drawing and exploration on paper, making the transition to textiles feel natural and intuitive. The rugs offer a tactile and architectural medium through which Lucia’s two-dimensional compositions can be experienced spatially and over time.
Nanimarquina – a unique rug for every person, space and emotion!
Nani Marquina founded her company in 1987 in Barcelona, breaking into the market with a new vision of that time: turning the classic rug into a contemporary design product. Her designs quickly won many accolades and in 1992 she decided to visit India where she discovered the true meaning of the rug and the multiple possibilities there are for reinterpreting it.
Their interest is in how design affects our behaviour, from the physical and emotional perspectives. They embark on the design process from observation, intuition and discovery, responding to the needs of every moment – and then bring on board designers and artists with fresh perspectives and designs, as well as crafts to explore new techniques and materials.
All Nanimarquina rugs are handmade in India, Pakistan and Nepal by skilled artisans who master ancestral local techniques. These are countries where rugs are culturally invaluable and where the best weavers are found. Every rug takes up to 11 weeks to make. The outcome is a unique piece that will help preserve an ancient cultural legacy.
Since their launch they have been developing sustainability strategies that shape the company’s global actions, and through their practical understanding of sustainability, they assess the short and long-term impact of each design.
