Bringing cool coastal living into your home

As we’re writing our June blog, the UK is sweltering through its second, big heatwave of the year and people are looking for any excuse to cool down. Think fans, paddling pools, sleeping in the garden and plenty of iced drinks in an effort to beat the heat.

Here at Heugah, we’re feeling exactly the same, which is why this month’s blog takes a look at ways to bring relaxed seaside style into your home. Think cool coastal colours, natural textures and designs that have you daydreaming about a sea breeze, a dip in the ocean and perhaps an ice cream afterwards to keep your energy levels up. So, without further ado, here’s our roundup of beautiful blue and neutral rugs that bring a touch of the coast indoors.

To get you dreaming of far-flung shores: GAN Rug Lan Indigo

If your idea of coastal style leans more towards exotic and wild coastlines than colourful beach huts and postcards, the GAN Lan Indigo is well worth a look. Made from 100% wool, its rich indigo tones bring depth and character to a room, while the textured finish adds interest without relying on a bold pattern. The result is a rug that feels relaxed and understated, making it easy to incorporate into a wide range of interiors. It’s particularly well suited to living rooms and bedrooms where you want colour to play a role in the scheme without becoming the main talking point.

For little beach explorers: Lorena Canals Ocean Shore

Children’s bedrooms and playrooms are a great place to have a little fun with a coastal theme, and Ocean Shore from Lorena Canals does exactly that. Little fish swim across the aqua-blue ocean floor, while the fringed edges are designed to resemble waves breaking onto the beach. It’s playful and imaginative without feeling overly bright or busy and even better – it’s machine washable! That means it’s practical enough for everyday family life, while children will love spotting the sea life woven into the design.

For contemporary coastal style: Ligne Pure Current Sky

Not every coastal-inspired room needs vivid blues and obvious nautical references. The Current Sky rug from Ligne Pure takes a much simpler approach, with a pale blue colour and a clean, minimalist design to create a calm and airy feel. It’s a particularly good choice for contemporary homes where simplicity is key. We think the subtle colouring helps introduce a coastal influence without dominating the room, making it easy to pair with natural materials, pale woods and neutral furnishings.

For tropical waters and summer escapes: Louis de Poortere Brush Diva Blue

For anyone looking to make more of a statement, Brush Diva Blue from Louis de Poortere offers a richer take on coastal colour. The deep aquamarine tones feel reminiscent of clear tropical waters and sunny days by the coast, while the artistic design gives the rug plenty of personality. It’s an excellent choice for spaces that would benefit from a little extra colour, particularly when paired with natural textures such as rattan, linen and wood. During the summer months especially, it’s the kind of rug that helps a room feel fresh, bright and full of life.

For taking coastal Caribbean vibes into your garden!

And finally, if the heatwave has you camping outside a lot and you’ve decided it’s time to give your outdoor spaces a facelift, here’s a gorgeous option. The Muturi Cobalt rug from Designers Guild is a brilliant way to bring a little extra style to patios, terraces and garden rooms.

Inspired by vintage handwoven rugs, its striped design combines beautiful shades of blue and green that feel reminiscent of clear tropical waters and colourful Caribbean coastlines. The flatweave construction is durable and easy to clean,so it’s great for outdoor living while still being stylish enough to use indoors if you prefer. Constructed from recycled PET polyester yarn, it’s a practical choice for busy homes where a rug needs to cope with muddy paws, summer entertaining and everything in between.

Bringing a coastal feel into your home

One of the things we love most about these ocean and coastline inspired rugs is how easy it is to make the look your own. Some homes suit rich and bold blues or dramatic textures, while other styles work better with soft neutrals and subtle hints of colour. And for some people, the fact a rug is washable or works both indoors and outside is one of its key selling points! A well-chosen rug can help achieve your look, adding colour, texture and warmth all without breaking the bank, so why not take a look at our full collection?
